Farmer Spotlight: Armando Ramirez
Owner of Pajaro Valley Organics and Ranch Manager for Regenerate 68! Farm
Armando Ramirez is one of Regenerative California’s steadfast leaders working to restore ecosystems, strengthen communities, and build a more resilient planet through the Future of Food initiative at Regenerate 68! Farm in Salinas. “I’ve always had a strong connection to agriculture and the land,” shared Armando. “Farming has taught me the value of hard work, patience, and community.”
When he first learned about Regenerate 68! Farm and its focus on regenerative agriculture, Armando was eager to be part of something bigger. “I was excited by the opportunity to be part of something that focuses not only on producing healthy food, but also creates a more sustainable future,” he said. “Being involved with Regenerative California has opened my eyes to new approaches that support both farmers and the environment.”
Regenerative California’s Future of Food Initiative centers on creating healthier food systems that not only restore soil health, increase biodiversity, and conserve water but also build stronger community connections between the growers and eaters. “I believe farming should work with nature instead of against it. Healthy soil creates healthier crops, healthier ecosystems, and healthier communities,” Armando shared.
This type of farming is no small feat, and Armando’s optimistic outlook allows him to face the unique challenges head-on. “Regenerative farming requires patience and long-term thinking. Building healthy soil and transitioning practices takes time, observation, and a willingness to keep learning,” he added. “Every season teaches you something new. It’s inspiring to be part of a movement that is growing and bringing people together.”
As Ranch Manager of Regenerate 68! Farm, Armando hopes to inspire and encourage others to get curious and experiment with regenerative farming techniques on their own. ”I tell people not to be afraid, to start small, and stay open to learning,” Armando shared. “Regenerative farming is a process, and nobody has all the answers right away. I encourage farmers to focus on soil health first, because healthy soil is the foundation for everything else.”
He is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Regenerative California team as the Ranch Manager on the Regenerate 68! Farm, and work alongside people who want to make a difference. When he’s not on the farm, Armando enjoys spending time with his family and friends. “Farming can be demanding, so it’s important to recharge and appreciate the simple things.”
